Interstate 15 Improvements
The I-15 CIP stretches approximately
44 miles.
The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 8 are working to improve traffic capacity and operations on Interstate 15 (I-15) from just north of the I-15/ I-215 separation in the City of Murrieta, northward to State Route 60 (SR-60).
The I-15 Corridor Improvement Project (CIP) stretches approximately 44 miles in length, traveling through Murrieta, Wildomar, Lake Elsinore, Corona, Norco and portions of unincorporated Riverside County. This project is a major element of RCTC’s 10-year western county highway delivery plan with an estimated construction cost of $1.7 billion and is a high priority project within the region.
The purpose of the proposed I-15 Corridor Improvement Project is to reduce freeway congestion and improve mobility within the project limits. To do this, the project team is considering widening the highway by using the available land within the existing median, as opposed to widening the highway outward. Using this technique would limit the number of adjacent properties affected by the project.
