Why Tolled Express Lanes?
Tolled express lanes are dedicated lanes with limited entrances and exits that, for a toll, provide travel time savings and trip reliability. The toll policy will be developed by RCTC and is expected to allow vehicles with three or more passengers to use the tolled express lanes at a discount. The four express lane toll rates will vary by time of day. This provides for free-flowing traffic in the tolled express lanes, no matter how congested the general purpose lanes become.
What are the Tolled Express Lanes’ Benefits?
Tolled express lanes present drivers with more options for reducing their travel times. This is made possible by allowing single-occupancy vehicles or lower-occupancy vehicles to use a high-occupancy vehicle lane. For example, while qualifying high-occupancy vehicles (with three or more passengers) would travel for a discount , vehicles with one or two passengers could pay a toll to use these faster lanes. Drivers would pay the tolls only when they choose to use the high-occupancy lanes.

How will the Tolled Express Lanes Work?
All vehicles that use the tolled express lanes will be required to have transponders, an electronic reader captures the transponder ID (seen here) and bills the account established by the driver. There will be no toll booths on any I-15 tolled express lanes.
